A Place Where People Go to Die is full length play adapted from a screenplay which was a Nicholl’s Fellowship quarterfinalist. A Place Where People Go to Die is a comedy/drama.
Actors are required to have a head shot and memorized monologue from a contemporary play. Preferably one from the past 30 years. We will also prepare sides for cold reads. Actors can inquire about reading the full-length play.

Playwright suggestions for monologue auditions:  Plays mixed with drama and humor are a plus. No musicals! A monologue that is more relevant to today and may push the envelope will be helpful.

Any plays by these playwrights are welcome: Sam Shepard, Adam Rapp, Annie Baker, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Paula Vogel, Jose Rivera, John Patrick Shanley, Sarah Ruhl, Suzan Lori-Parks, Tracey Letts
(These are only a few examples. If there is another play that works for your monologue, feel free to perform it. Stay away from good clean fun plays.) 


NOTE: All races, ethnicities are welcome to audition for all roles. This is an American story that takes place in Southern California (the San Gabriel Valley). Therefore, no specific race is required. We welcome people of all colors, White, Brown, Black, Purple, and Green.

CAUTIONS: There is NO NUDITY in the play, but it is quite sexual and there are moments in which sex is insinuated. There will be scenes of kissing and a somewhat comedic, yet erotic moments of dancing.
The language of the play is quite vulgar and we would only ask of actors who are comfortable with using profanity and don’t mind voicing negative rhetoric towards religion and society. There are also moments of drug use.

​WRITER/DIRECTOR'S NOTE

The title The Defecate-ables says it all on my opinion of this past election of 2016. I voted for Hillary. Not that I was with her, but to see the Donald Trump as President was just horrifying to me! Yet, as a writer... to have Donald Trump as President left myself along with many other writers kind of excited to have great material to work with. He's definitely a unique character. Unfortunately he's our President. But, to make fun of Mr. Trump is just too easy. When writing this piece I had no intention to prove Trump is an idiot, that Hillary is crooked or a saint sent from God.  And I have no intention to point out that Politicians are criminals. This is a play about the election and the election alone. This story focuses on the hysteria of the election, the confrontations that the election brought, elements of fear that were used to fuel the election, social media's impact on the election, and most importantly the two main characters that led the ridiculous election of 2016-- Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. 
 
This story was not easy to write due to the assumption that nobody is ready to laugh at the results of the election. Both sides and in between had no time to use humor to heal from what this country experienced in November of 2016. Everyone had completely lost their sanity! I held the belief that everyone would rather fight than laugh and move on. So I was extremely anxious of not only writing this story but showing it to others-- and I never hold back. I've created shows with stories that include Gay Priests, Jesus doing hard drugs, couples defecating on each other for sexual pleasure... and the list goes on of crude and offensive material. But, for once I felt a dread that I had never felt before as a writer. 

Seven months later we have a play at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. This was a very difficult play to put on stage. The narrative alone requires a unique creativity and focus in which we center not only on the election of Donald Trump but a look at other undesirable leaders. Set in a mocumentary style including musical and dance numbers. This production brings a unique story line that I hope pushes the audience to not take it so serious. This play is silly, vulgar, and at times thought provoking... maybe. The Defecate-ables alone should be a title that encourages the audience to not take things so seriously. This is a fun play that has no political agenda. There is no propaganda to be forced or hammered into people's minds. You can go to Facebook and Twitter for that. The Defecate-ables is only to poke fun at the silliness of the Election. I hope everyone can relax and laugh even though our future may look daunting.

The cast of The Defecate-ables... 
Alicia Ivanhoe, Hailee Rose, Evan Wallace, Ashley Danielle Simpson, Lindsey Whitener, Vanessa Toyama, and Lauren Alexa! 

Drawing for our next production! Amazing creation from Skyler Gonzalez! Our Production will hit the stage at the Hollywood Fringe Festival this Summer in June! Auditions this coming Sunday, February 26th, at the Lounge Theater! 

We are currently casting two more actors for this production. One male and one female. Each actor will take multiple roles due to the fact that we need seven actors to take on over thirty roles. Below is a break down of the male and female actor roles that we are hoping to cast!

ALL ACTORS will be asked to bring an a comedic monologue... (theater or film) and to sing or rap a pop song of their choice. Auditions are February 26th, Sunday from 12 noon to 3pm.

MALE, 20-35 (Actor who can sing- or at least carry a tune, has dancing ability, and improve experience is a major plus! Body type and ethnicity are not an issue. We are open to all ethnicities. Male actor must also be open to wearing a dress on stage.)

ROLE: LIBERAL LESBIAN

The Liberal Lesbian must be played by a male actor- who will be asked to play multiple roles as will the rest of the cast. The Liberal Lesbian, is just as titled. An anit-Trump, pro-Hillary supporter. She is not happy with the election results and shows the most love towards Hillary Clinton. She will stop at nothing to inform the audience that Hillary was the woman for the job. The male actor will also be asked to play Ivanka Trump, a calmed demeanor beauty who is asked to give a speech to relax the nation on the election results. The next role is Mary Cragin, a sexually charged nympho from the 1800's who helps conspire with a Religious leader to make infidelity a blessing encouraged by God. The last role is a Gay Baker, who sings a show tune to Mike Pence about gay rights. Body type, race and ethnicity is not a requirement, due to the fact that actor will be playing multiple roles. Improv experience would help-- actor must only be comfortable with their sexuality and willing to wear a dress and play a woman.

FEMALE, 20-35 (Actress who can sing, dance, and has improve experience is a plus. We are not looking for a specific body type or ethnicity... we only  want someone who is comfortable playing multiple roles and is comfortable with their sexuality on stage. Actress breakdown is below.

ROLE Bernie Sanders Supporter
The Bernie Sanders Supporter is a lead role that is also played by an actress who will take on four more roles-- The first role of Bernie Sanders Supporter will be an educated, angry young American who is not thrilled at all by the election results and by the campaign. An anti-Trump, Anti-Hillary, and Anti-everything, the Supporter will stop at nothing to inform the audience of political corruption. The second role would be King David of the Bible. The Actress will be required to poke fun of David's infidelity and hunger for sexual appetite. David in this production is a vulgar, sex raged moron, who will stop at nothing to have sex with every woman and brag about it. No specific dialect is needed, due to the fact that David will talk more contemporary, as if he has been to one too many rap concerts. An ability to rap some of the dialogue would be a plus! The third role is John Humprhey Noyes, a 1800s American who lived through the Second Great Awakening-- taking on another male role, the actress will be asked to play a more sophisticated Aristocratic character, who speaks at an immense articulate level. John Noyes, much like David can be a little crude and drop some dirty words. The fourth role would also be a male character, as a Gay Florist, who sings a show tune song to Vice President Mike Pence, encouraging gay rights. The last role would be a 1940's Sexy Nazi Transvestite that will be doing a dance number for Donald Trump. Age is flexible, and body type is wide open due to the fact that the actress will be playing multiple roles. Being in a specific shape is not a requirement, but an actress who is comfortable with her sexuality and body is a plus.
